General Dentistry / Should I have my crowns replaced?
« on: February 21, 2012, 06:31:05 PM »
Okay.... Well, about 10 years ago I had dental implants put in. They are the teeth directly next to my front two teeth on both sides. Since then, I have improved my dental hygiene and use an electric toothbrush and my natural teeth are now WHITER than my implants. Its very frustrating. Well, I also have a special case because my implants were put in too far forward. Its only slight, but its enough to where the metal shows at the top of the implants because of thin gum tissue. The only way I could fix this would be to go to a specialist and have them drill down the implants and then put crowns with a pink top to cover the metal. However, that is no longer an option because it will cost me close to $5,000 out of pocket and then I have to file insurance and get reimbursed myself. My teeth really don't look bad at all. You can't see the metal unless I lift up my upper lip. The only thing that really bothers me is that they aren't the same color as my natural teeth! I can tell by looking in the mirror and I can also tell in photographs and it makes me a little self-conscious.

My dentist doesn't feel comfortable doing the drilling procedure herself. SOOO....I'm thinking about just having the crowns themselves replaced to match my natural teeth and not worry about the metal showing. It will cost me about $2,000 and insurance will hopefully help with part of that. My husband says he thinks my teeth look fine and noone else can tell they are a different color unless I point them out. Do you think it is worth it to replace those teeth or should I just forget it? I'm kinda frustrated at this point because I thought my dentist would do the procedure but now she doesn't feel comfortable doing it and I'm not going to go to a specialist. Its just not worth all of that headache!
