Title: Suggestion for Thai Mobile Networks
Post by: wyc99 on May 04, 2012, 12:39:47 AM
Hello all on dentalthailand forum,

I’m traveling to Bangkok for some dental work and will take an unlocked mobile with me, as I feel more comfortable to be contacted from the clinic to remind the schedule. I’m just wondering which Thai network is best for me to use. How much do they charge for a sim card? I have heard that sim card is sometimes handed out at the airports for free?

Any info that you may feel help, pass on!!

Hi wyc99,

You can buy a prepaid sim card at 7/11. I use 1-2-call as their network is widespread and their refill cards are affordable and available at any 7/11 which means everywhere!!

Well, I’m not so sure about the free sim card at the airport, maybe they give only in a special occasion or something?!
:P

There are 3 networks available in Thailand; True, Dtac, and AIS. True is probably the cheapest but 1-2-call (AIS) and Happy (DTAC) give the best coverage. Starting rate for a sim card is THB 59 - THB 99 and the refill card varies depending on how much usage that you need. Especially, DTAC offers to lend "THB 30" for emergency which will be deducted next time when you top up.
