Title: Tuk Tuks in Bangkok
Post by: kingfish on March 19, 2012, 07:43:10 PM
Hi everyone,

Just wanted to drop by and share about Tuk Tuks in Bangkok. It's one of the iconic images that might pop into your head might be of these cool and cute little tree wheelers called Tuk Tuks. It is therefore understandable that on your first trip to Thailand, you might want to take a ride on one. I am not going to say that you shouldn’t, but I think you should understand what to expect before taking one so that you wouldn’t be disappointed or downright angry with the experience. Firstly expect to be ripped off (I would use a better sounding word but this is basically what you are getting). Secondly, watch out that they might take you for a ride.

Don’t let me put you off Tuk Tuks just yet though. Having said all of the above I think anyone should try going on a Tuk Tuk once or twice in your life just for the experience, just don’t expect to use it as your main form of transportation.

P.S. Don’t take Tuk Tuks during rush hours or where traffic is bad. Getting stuck in the traffic with no air conditioning breathing in exhaust fumes is no fun and unhealthy.

Tuk tuks are absolutely everywhere in Bangkok. They are cheap, efficient, small and slippery seat; made out of a motorbike, seats and a roof welded together. Good thing is, the driver knows all the places to go and will be happy to wait for you. PLEASE agree on a sensible price with him BEFORE you start off.  ;)
